Sexual Assault Evidence Collection Kits

Most jurisdictions have Sexual Assault Evidence Collection Kits (rape kits) to collect evidence from a sexual assault victim. However, not all hospitals have sexual assault nurse examiners, and it may be necessary for the attending officer to work with the hospital staff to ensure that DNA evidence is collected and packaged properly to prevent contamination. The attending officer may also suggest special considerations that should be taken when collecting DNA evidence from unusual locations on the victim.
